Congressional Events in Support of the Hearing Aid Tax Credit
Every email and letter sent to Congress is critical to demonstrating how important this issue is to people across the country. More than 100 legislators now support the House and Senate tax credit bills, and many have become champions for the cause. Local chapters of national organizations that represent people with hearing loss, parents of children with hearing loss, and hearing healthcare professionals who fit and dispense hearing aids have held events to thank these champions in their home districts for their support. These town hall style meetings have been held in California, Maryland, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin, and turnout has ranged from 75 people at a 7:30am breakfast event on a Friday in California to 200 people at a Saturday brunch in Henderson, NV. The video clips below are an example of one such event and demonstrate the overwhelming grassroots support this legislation has attracted.
Some of the most active local groups include chapters of the following national organizations:
Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (AG Bell)
Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA)
International Hearing Society (IHS)
In August 2009, the AGBell-NV chapter held an event that attracted a record crowd of 200 people to thank Rep. Dina Titus (3rd District, NV) for her support of the Hearing Aid Tax Credit. She was introduced by Nevada Senator Terry Care, a great champion of people with hearing loss in the Nevada legislature. Several AGB-NV members spoke at the event to relate their experience with hearing loss and the importance of the Hearing Aid Tax Credit.
